Dour-Glaz Project
Study of turbid plumes and sediment deposits from dredging operations during their immersion at sea.
Project managers : : Mouncef Sedrati
Project leaders : LGO UMR CNRS 6538 – UBS
Funding : Lorient Agglomération & UBS
Length of the project : November 2022 - Today
Presentation
In order to better understand sedimentary movements and limit the impact of human activities on the marine environment, Lorient Agglomération asked the LGO at the University of Southern Brittany (UBS) to conduct an in-depth study of turbid plumes and sediment deposits from dredging activities during their immersion at sea, off the coast of Groix. This study is part of a more ambitious program led by the Agglomération, the Dour Glaz project, which aims to enhance our knowledge of the overall natural functioning of coastal water masses and thus contribute to improving their quality. The cost of the study entrusted to UBS is estimated at €54,000 excluding taxes, with 80% funded by Lorient Agglomération and 20% by UBS.
Objectives
- Understanding sedimentary movements at sea and the impact of dredged sediment deposits.
- Limiting the impact of human activities on the marine environment.
- Enhancing the quality of coastal water masses.
